Presentation: The 8 Wastes of Software Development
Waste in software development isn’t always obvious, but it’s everywhere—hidden in the backlog, baked into processes, and embedded in culture. Borrowing from Lean’s concept of muda—work that consumes resources but adds no customer value—this talk explores how Taiichi Ohno’s classic framework translates into modern software teams. We’ll break down the 8 Wastes of Software Development: unplanned work, extra features, waiting, unused talent, handoffs, over-planning & incomplete work, repetition, and over-engineering. We'll explore how to identify them in your workplace and examine ways of eliminating and mitigating them.
